Vineyards & Wineries for sale in Chianti Docg area, Tuscany
Chianti is a red wine produced in the Tuscan region of Italy. It has been granted the prestigious DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) status, which ensures that the wine is made according to strict production regulations and quality standards. The Chianti DOCG is one of the oldest and most famous wine regions in Italy, known for producing high-quality Sangiovese-based wines.
The production area of Chianti DOCG covers a large region in Tuscany, including the provinces of Florence, Siena, Pisa, Arezzo, and Pistoia. The region is characterized by rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves, and is divided into seven sub-zones: Chianti Classico, Colli Aretini, Colli Fiorentini, Colline Pisane, Colli Senesi, Montalbano, and Rufina. Each sub-zone has unique soil, climate, and topography, resulting in a diverse range of wines with distinct flavors and aromas.
The Chianti region has been producing wine since the 13th century. However, it was not until the 18th century that the region's wine began to gain international recognition. In 1716, the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo III de' Medici established the first production regulations for Chianti wine. These regulations were updated in 1924, and the Chianti region was officially recognized as a DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) in 1967. In 1984, the Chianti region was granted DOCG status, which further strengthened the region's reputation for producing high-quality wines. Today, the Chianti DOCG is recognized as one of the most important wine regions in the world and continues to produce some of Italy's finest wines.
