Lombardy is a region located in northern Italy and is one of the country's most populated areas. It is home to Italy's fashion capital, Milan, as well as stunning lakes, mountains, and historic cities like Bergamo, Brescia, and Mantua. The region, inhabited since very ancient times, bloomed and had its golden age during th Middle Ages, and is nowadays well known for its rich history, art, and culture, making it a popular tourist destination.

Lombardy is home to several renowned wine-producing areas, including Franciacorta, Valtellina, and Oltrepò Pavese. The region's wines are characterized by their complex aromas, flavors, and high quality. Franciacorta is known for its sparkling wines, while Valtellina produces full-bodied red wines from the Nebbiolo grape. Oltrepò Pavese is famous for its sparkling wines made from Pinot Nero and Chardonnay grapes.

Lombardy is the fourth-largest wine-producing region in Italy, with an annual production of around 1,800,000 hl. The region's vineyards cover an area of approximately 26,000 hectares, with the majority located in the province of Brescia. The top grape varieties produced in Lombardy are Pinot Nero, Chardonnay, and Nebbiolo. Franciacorta is the most significant wine-producing area in the region (mainly for sparkling wines), followed by Valtellina and Oltrepò Pavese.
