Montetucco vineyards & wineries for sale in Maremma, Tuscany
Montecucco DOC is a wine produced in Maremma, in the southern part of Tuscany. The production area encompasses several municipalities in the province of Grosseto, including Cinigiano, Campagnatico, Castel del Piano, Arcidosso, Roccalbegna, and parts of Seggiano and Scansano. Established as a DOC in 1998, Montecucco has gained recognition for its high-quality wines, which benefit from the region’s favorable climate and unique terroir. The area is characterized by rolling hills, volcanic soils enriched with minerals, and a Mediterranean climate with significant temperature variations between day and night, ideal for cultivating vines. The vineyards are generally situated at altitudes ranging from 150 to 500 meters above sea level, with excellent sun exposure that enhances grape ripening.
Montecucco DOC wines include both reds and whites, though the focus is predominantly on red wines made from Sangiovese grapes, which must account for at least 60% of the blend. For white wines, Vermentino and Trebbiano are the most commonly used varieties. Montecucco DOC reds are renowned for their intense ruby color, rich bouquet of red fruits and spices, and a well-structured, harmonious palate with fine tannins and a long finish. The whites are appreciated for their bright straw-yellow color, fresh and floral aroma, and crisp, balanced taste.
The Montecucco DOC production area spans approximately 1,400 hectares, with an annual production of around 70,000 hectoliters. The wine is crafted by a combination of small-scale family-owned wineries and larger producers, reflecting the region’s dedication to traditional winemaking methods alongside innovation.
